I am going to do some bragging this time... I have been receiving calls all week about what happy grandchildren I have now.. people cant believe they are the same sad kids they have been for the past 5 months.. now they are happy and smiling at everyone and talking to. Friends I hadn't heard from in months are saying how happy they are and it is great to hear..ok I am thru..

The picture was one that was sent to us. The following was and explanation ABOUT THE IMAGE:
I live about 5 blocks east of Mobile Bay in the tiny Gulf Coast Community of Fairhope, Alabama. From my house, I walk down to the Bay, usually along Pier St., which terminates at the Bay by a little store called Bay Break. There is a pier at the end of the street where fishing boats are launched. There is a Live Oak close to the waters edge which is one of my favorite trees (yes,... I guess you could call me a Tree Hugger, especially old growth Live Oaks which are evergreen. They are sacred and should not be cut down with out very good reason.) It is here that I walked as Katrina approached. I wanted to take some pictures before the storm hit.
This image for auction was taken Sunday, August 28th 2005 near the Pier Street Oak Tree, looking up at the clouds. I was amazed at the dragonflies which were swarming overhead. I have read that the dragonfly is an omen of pending death,... a messenger. I usually don't list much of my photography, but under the current circumstances, I thought someone might like to see or even own this image.

My aunt and great-grandmother lived on 4th Avenue and I loved walking to "town" on Saturdays when my mom and I made our weekly visit, especially when my cousin and I were considered old enough to go unsupervised. We'd check out all the stores - Carter-Heide, Fine Bros., Alec-Loeb, Kress, Woolworth's, Williams' - and then on the way back stop at the old library in the basement of the museum and check out a few books from Mrs. Cooley who would admonish us to be sure to bring them back on time.

Thanks for the photo Marvid. Reminds me of times when I visited my Grandmother who lived in Laurel. We would walk to town and window shop at night. That was a treat for someone who lived in the county.
And going into that bank was like being in the big city for a young girl.
